I enjoyed reading your blog and thank you for sharing your process…..I’m actively painting and enjoying that immensely, growing in outcomes and knowledge. I just did my first encaustic workshop over the weekend, just an intro, but I am amazed with the subtleties, layering etc.
I’m going to keep watching and learning, hoping to purchase supplies to incorporate in a piece.
Question: I work with a lot of texture and am fascinated with the texture you utilized on “your first piece” done on canvas…..in your opinion, and fromwhat I saw of Mary’s techniques here, oil is more “compatible” than acrylic….could I coat encaustic over oils ……as in old palettes of gloppy oil completely dried on masonite? a thought….thanks!
First, thanks for stopping by and commenting! To answer your question, yes, absolutely you could use encaustic over oils in the way you describe. And oils are definitely compatible with encaustic in a way that acrylics are not. I haven’t used acrylics with encaustic since very early on in my experimental phase!
Encaustic is such an incredible medium in which to work. I’m constantly learning and trying things out and expanding my repertoire of techniques. I’d love to see some of your work as you get more immersed in encaustic!
